Aztecs and Mayas loved Cocoa
As early as 400 AD, the ancestors of the Aztecs and the Mayans grew cocoa. They seasoned their cocoa with chilli, vanilla and honey, a power drink that they called "Xocolatl".
In their day, cocoa was so valuable that it was used as a means of payment.
