Rhodiola Powder, Rhodiola rosea
The plant gets its name from the characteristic rose-like scent of its rubbed root.
The secret of long life, an ancient dream pursued by Chinese emperors who sent expeditions to Siberia to collect Rhodiola roots. Rhodiola rosea increases energy and vitality, lifts the mood, and supports physical and mental well-being during times of stress.
Rhodiola rosea, also known as golden root, is a perennial plant that grows on sandy, rocky, cold, and dry slopes in Siberia. Its use dates back to the Greek physician Dioscorides (77 BC). Tradition attributes to it the ability to increase endurance, longevity, sexual vitality, and mental performance. Scientific studies conducted in Russia and Scandinavia in the 1960s confirmed these effects. Since then, Rhodiola rosea has been regarded as one of the first adaptogenic substances (supporting the body's resistance to stress), similar to ginseng.
Rhodiola may stimulate the energy metabolism of cells. It supports higher levels of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and creatine phosphate in the mitochondria, the cellular energy factories, thereby helping to provide more energy molecules essential for daily tasks.
Rhodiola may have psychostimulant effects, as highlighted in Russian research. It may improve low mood and reduce recovery time after exertion. It may also help relieve stress and fatigue while increasing mental performance. Rhodiola works by reducing the concentration of metabolites produced during stress, particularly CRF (Corticotropin Releasing Factor), which is associated with increased fatigue.
Studies have shown that Rhodiola may help with Parkinson’s disease, depression, and smoking cessation.
